Tesco Superstores have reduced fleet damage costs by 18% at their Peterborough Distribution Centre by using innovative AI technology to monitor vehicle condition in real time, and power preventative vehicle repairs.
The supermarket first introduced FleetScout’s Automated Vehicle Inspection (AVI) technology in early 2025, in partnership with fleet management specialists at sopp+sopp.
FleetScout enables Tesco’s Peterborough depot to scan each of its vehicles for damage and defects automatically every time they enter or leave the site. This helps them identify new damage immediately, schedule proactive repairs, and maintain a real-time condition record for every vehicle in their fleet.

FleetScout’s powerful visual AI has been trained on hundreds of thousands of cases of vehicle damage and defects, enabling it to both identify and categorise issues with high accuracy. As soon as the AVI system picks up the damage, it’s sent directly to FleetScout Central – a user-friendly vehicle management platform – for immediate attention from fleet stakeholders.
